Welcome to Wakersfields.
Wakersfields is a website dedicated to abstract video art that aspires to let you roam in scapes of visual abstraction without being interfered with by words. Obviously, hardly any page can do without words, and you have reached this page to find out what it’s all about.
What?
The Wakersfields videos aim to go beyond representation. There are no symbols, no hidden subliminal messages, there is only a sense of pure matter and its animation that frees the eye from a functional interpretation. In that sense, the dynamics within the flowing matter are the topic of this exploration and Wakersfields thus hopes to discover and map patterns within the flux.
How?
Once you’ve clicked on the large orb at the homepage you will be taken to the latest video. From there on you can use the “Next” and “Previous” buttons to go chronologically through the videos. However, from the bar below the video you will get a visual selection of other videos, which might be a more intuitive way of navigating the fields.
Furthermore, you can follow the updates on the site by subscribing to the feed which is linked to under the watch symbol.
Who?
How about you? Wakersfields would like you to share your vision of abstract imagery. If you have been inspired by a dream or vision and would like the patterns of this to become visible, please make contact and we will try to translate it for you as best as we can. Please note that initially we will stick to rather short videos of around 60 seconds. However do not spare us with your input be it pictures, videos or music that might describe your vision to us. We might even use the material to create the piece.
This is a discovery for Wakersfields as much as it is for you! We look forward to hearing from you.
If you are an artist and wish to help, please do not hesitate to make contact! Wakersfields aspires to expand at all times. Just be sure to meet us halfway on journey within the abstract.
Sharing and Embedding
We would like you to spread the word… eh… visual. At the bottom of each page is an eMail button which allows you to forward the page you’re currently viewing to a friend. The sharing button allows you to add the site to your bookmark account like del.icio.us or StumbleUpon. You can of course ping the video from your blog.
Most importanly however, you can embed a video and share it on your site. If you do so, please supply a link to the Wakersfields page you took it from. If you need instructions on this, please contact us.
Licenses
All works presented on Wakersfields are released under a Creative Commons License. To find out more about the specific license we use, please click on the Create Commons link at the bottom of each page.
Developing a Language
In the long run, we also hope to be able to map certain dynamics of the abstract in an attempt to see if some kind of language can be coined. For this sake many of the videos are named in a way to describe their movement or character. This is at first subjective but we hope to open this process up to you as we go along in order to find a common denominator. What is to come can be guessed from the roadmap below.
Roadmap
- advanced video selection depending on tag relations
- podcast format
- high definition resolution (DONE!)
- wiki to support the mapping
We hope you enjoy your journey!
